Welcome 2025
We begin the new year with a look back, filled with gratitude for all those who have supported We Are Up in so many ways. We want to share some of the highlights:
With the help of IECP, we hosted an on-site pilot program social group for teens with autism and intellectual disabilities.
Community volunteers donated over 2,500 hours this year alone. With their help, we were able to donate produce and apples from the We Are Up gardens to neighbors and McKinleyville Family Resource Center.
We began receiving funding from the California Department of Housing & Community Development's REAP 2.0 grant, allowing us to move forward with design and other infrastructure work. This grant will not only help We Are Up but also bring improved bus service to McKinleyville.
Our 3rd Annual Spooktacular was a huge success, thanks to all of you who attended, donated, and volunteered your time! Our Ambassadors had a great time leading us onto the dance floor, enjoying dinner together and volunteering along with students from Arcata High and St. Bernard's.
Board President Mary Keehn donated the original 15.5 acre parcel to We Are Up and helped us secure site control of 3 additional parcels fronting Central Avenue. With the addition of the new parcels, we have redesigned our site plan and moved our Community Center to the commercially zoned property on Central Avenue. A number of local businesses have pledged to donate a portion of construction costs.
