Building a Community Fills the Heart

What can we say? THANK YOU seems so insufficient when we think of how much support our community has showered on We Are Up. In the past month, because of YOU we have had two major community events with about 400 people attending, and we have raised over 25% of our $400,000 goal to build our greenhouse. This support represents so much more than the dollars raised. It represents real people saying YES, I will help – I can donate an auction item, or become a financial sponsor, I can help set up, or clean up, invite a friend, or ask for a donation. We Are Up is all about building community. So many have stepped up in ways we will never know. We feel a great success already. We also know how many attended our events AND dressed in costume AND had a great time. We even had an Elvis sighting!

Building Relationships

The great need here in our community and around the country for a project such as We Are Up has brought interest from around the state. Mary Keehn was pleased to show the We Are Up vision and property to Congressman Jared Huffman and Redwood Coast Regional Center Executive Director Dr. Kimberly Smalley, and honored to be profiled in RCRC’s November newsletter. We’ve qualified to be part of the North Coast Co-op’s Seeds for Change Round-up Program! Building Awareness

We were honored to be the primary recipient of Mad River Rotary’s Farm to Table fundraising event. This recognition of We Are Up in our first year shows the need in the community and the overwhelming will to serve. This group did so much to bring awareness to the We Are Up vision of building inclusive, inter-generational housing, income opportunities, and mutual support systems for adults with and without disabilities. Some of the words we have heard –

Building a Team

The We Are Up Witches may have taken the leading roles for the Spooktacular, but it was the community of volunteers who made it the special event we were hoping for. Who knew fundraising could be so fun?!? Rex Bohn with his overflowing generosity made it easy to stand up and bid for an individual cookie, making Jayden’s Cookies the high selling auction item of the evening. Dancing to Stereotacti let us all end the evening feeling so grateful. Our hearts are full!
